If you had to choose one name, one person who had throughout their entire career shaped the structure of human resources and strongly influenced its present appearance, one name instantly comes to mind - Dave Ulrich.
Ulrich is recognized as the ‘Father of modern HR' and one of the world's leading business thinkers. He has published over 200 articles and has written more than 30 books. He lectured in front of large audiences in 90 countries and conducted workshops for numerous business leaders thereby contributing to the development and popularization of HR profession.
And he is still not done! On the contrary, Dave Ulrich claims that ‘’this is a GREAT time to be in HR’’!
HR can include the HR department, practices, and professionals. HR departments become the organization unit that shapes how to govern for talent, leadership, and organization. An HR department’s effectiveness is not about efficiency, functional excellence, or even realizing strategic goals, but about creating sustained customer and investor results. HR practices are the tools in HR around people (e.g., staffing, training, careers), performance (appraisal and rewards), information (employee surveys, communication), and work (organization design, policies) that move from isolated processes to integrated solutions that deliver value to all stakeholders. HR professional are the individuals charged with insights that deliver real value, which requires new competencies for those working in HR. Collectively, HR departments, practices, and people offer unique insights that create value for all stakeholders.
Because in a world of increased social, technological, economic, political, environmental, and demographic change, HR creates sustainable value, he says.
Through his lecture, 'Value Creation Through HR: Why is this the great time to be in HR?', Dave will explain why HR professionals need to be clear about the key outcomes they deliver through their work, whilst pointing out ways they contribute to meeting the company’s goals.
